• hello,

I am in the process of migrating two wordpress sites to a hew hosting platform. Sounds simple enough right? Well, these two sites are both add-on domains and whomever installed them apparently had trouble and tried installing them in multiple directories. There are several copies floating around as well as databases with very similar names.

I am asking for suggestions as to how i can find the right database for both active sites so I can export the right databases.

Thanks in advance for your help. Any other tips having to do with migrating to a new host would be greatly appreciated.

  • Firstly, you will have to locate the exact folders where the actual (your desired) wordpress is installed. Once you locate that folder in your addon domains, you will find the file named as “wp-config.php”. You will find the correct database details in this file.

WebDi, migrating WordPress is super easy just takes a few steps.

Louis is right finding your DB – open the wp-config.php file in your root directory and you’ll see all your database details.

If it’s a small site, you can use the Tools > Export to do it automatically (and then the Tools > Import to reimport on the new location), just remember to download your wp-content folder and upload it to your new host as well to move images etc.

It looks as though both wordpress sites (with different addon url’s) are using the same database. I assume this will make my work easier. Is there anything I should be aware of with this?
