• i’ve not noticed this prior to my upgrade to 2.3.3.

upgraded properly from 2.3.2 and now when getting finished up, i’ve noticed that ie 6 displays nothing with the visual rich editor. code view is fine, and all seems okay there, but the visual rich editor displays icons, but no content.

I’ve tried tinymceadvanced, wysi-wordpress, and have tried deactivating any plugins to see if that would help.

only when the visual rich editor is enabled does the page throw an error, telling me that access is denied, line 184, char 290

    strange and rather odd.

No problems with FF2 or Safari in OSX
No problems with FF 2 on XP
    Should be fine in IE7

A man goes talks to the doctor. He says, “Doc, my arm hurts when I raise it up and down.” The doctor says, “So don’t raise it up and down.”

If you ask “why” at every computer problem instead of “how” you will be trapped forever.

    Use FF or IE7.

I am more than happy to use one of those, but one cannot always demand an end-user use a specific browser.

no more so than one can do so when developing code for a final product. I am well aware of the fact that IE 6 is a pain in the ass, but its still the majority of what is used by the mainstream user.

therefore i have no choice but have to try to support it.

So you have other people posting to your blog?

No. I am using WP as a basic CMS for a number of people.

Well, just like new versions of WP require specific versions of mySQL and PHP you may have to drag them kicking and screaming into the future (err, the present).

You are not asking them to change to a different browser just upgrade which in today’s rapidly moving world seems like a reasonable request.

The browser issue you describe seems to manifest itself on different computers. Some are fine, some are not. There are features like cut and paste within widgets that for me do not work in IE7 but others have no problem. I suspect it has to do with security but just use FF as a work-around.

Oh yes, I assume you have validated code not that it really matters with IE6.

not to nitpick, but a workaround is not a solution, and i am looking for a solution. theres no reason why it shouldnt work on the most common browser(bane of existence) on the market.

It apparently does work – at least for most people. But we will never know for sure. How many WP users, commenters, readers use IE6? No way to actually know but I think given the very nature and concept of blogging the users involved are most likely to be using updated solutions.

But, that does not help you with CMS. I see you have read https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/150660?replies=21. From that it is easy to see this is a user specific issue probably revolving around javascript. I hope you can find a solution that works for all of your clients.

Large changes to the visual editor are expected in WordPress 2.5. Have you tried that with IE6?

I have, and it works. Of course, it works for me on 2.3.3 as well, so YMMV.
