IE9 vs. Chrome: player sizes

In IE the player box shows up and plays, but it has a small black box at the top. What is it and why is it there?

In Chrome the player box is tiny rendering the playback useless. It also has that small black box at the top. How do I change the size?

I’d like to share the visual, but this is an intranet site behind a firewall.
