If else, show 404 page

  • I am working on a theme and would like to show the 404.php file if nothing in the loop is found. Currently, I have to show a separate “not found” error message, but I would like to just show the 404 file instead. Thanks for your help!

    To clarify, right now if I were to visit an empty category, it shows the <?php else : ?> section of the loop on index.php. I was wondering if I can have it show the 404.php file instead?
