If i update a plugin manually will all my edits erase?

I’m on local and so i update plugins directly through the flolders, so if i have used that plugin and made transformations to the site with the plugin and i have to update, meaning i’d have to go to the folder and replace it with the new one doesn’t it make the plugin like new, since i’ve technically deleted the old plugin folder and replace it with a brand new one, or will i still keep everything.
