If I update my wordpress version will it effect my website?

  • Hi All,

    If I update my wordpress version from 4.2.7 to 4.4.2 will it effect my website? I have downloaded its theme folder as backup and also its database.

    Please advice should I use the update button from dashboard?

  • The only answer that we can give is “maybe, but maybe not”.

    The answer depends on the theme and plugins that you’re using, and if those are all compatible with the latest version. While the vast majority are, some aren’t, and some won’t play together nicely.

    The best thing to do is take a complete backup (files and database) of your site before you update anything. That way if anything bad does happen you’ll be able to revert back to that backup.
