If I make some change and the site broke, can I access the management panel?

I’m found errors in the stylesheet.css of the theme(karma 4.2). The people who management the site before me don’t leave any information to access the host to make backups through FTP or SFTP. So I’m afraid to lost access from the management panel and lost the site.

We don’t have any information except for the management panel login information. We don’t have information about host and the purchase of the theme and plugins. I think we are lost, if something happens we have to remake all the site from the zero.

Please, someone know how to proceed in this situation?

  • Stylesheet changes won’t crash your site The worst that they’d do is have it look strange. It’s really only PHP changes that should cause any sort of crash.

The best thing ot do is find out what the FTP and control panel details are. You will need them one day, so the sooner you get them the better. If you don’t know who the hosting company is get your accounts people to lok through the records and see who you’re paying for it and that will tell you who you will need to contact.

    There’s a hosting Control panel you’ll want access to…

You’ll usually find the domain was registered at the web host when the original purchaser bought the domain and web hosting at the same time.

If your site is a WordPress based site then you’ll have a dashboard for WordPress itself. Which is what I think you are talking about when you are working with your site right now.

The hosting control panel will probably get you the FTP credentials.

If there is any kind of backup plugin within your WordPress I’d recommend making sure you have a backup in hand and the access to the hosting control panel. From there you can usually fix most problems.

catacaustic (@catacaustic), thank you for your comment.

Thank you for the information about the CSS, I am begginer in webpages management.

I’m working on the host informatios since I start to manage the webpage, but looks no one knows the information of the host. Thank you.

JNashHawkins (@jnashhawkins), thank you for your comment.

I think you are right about WordPress based. But I’m looking for the FTP credentials and all the credentials I found don’t and tried was wrong. I tried the credential in the “settings > WordPress Address(URL)” for the address and “users” for the credentials, is that right?
    Thank you for the help

Unless you can find the hosting company, you won’t get the FTP and control panel details. They are the only ones that will be able to tell you that information.

Any of the details on WordPress are not the FTP details, and have nothing to do with it. It’s a completely separate system, so you can’t use one account to access the other area.
