• I put into practice some of the ideas I’ve been having and redesigned If Else.

The site utilises the 3 col to 2 col system seen on Root’s Aphrodite and Doug’s StopDesign. The main page is displayed in 3 column glory whilst going into a post gives you a 2 column layout with a wider content column.

The latest post is handled differently from older posts without any modifications to the WP setup or any special plugins.

I’m also handling ‘short’ posts differently from main posts in similar fashion to PhotoMatt and Kottke.

I’d appreciate any feedback esp. with regards to how it looks on the various browsers. The design itself is a total overhaul so little bugs are probably inevitable:-)

  • Very nice work ifelse, but I’d have to say I’m not a big fan of the color/font size combination you have as it makes it hard to read. This is just personal preferencet hough.

There is going to be a big difference between the theme and the style. The style can easily be altered any which way.

Ahh, that’s probably where our work deviate. My theme provides the whole look and feel whilst the work you’re doing will be a framework for multiple styles.

As I’ve mentioned on probably far too many occasions, I can’t wait to see your official release and have a look at how you’ve done things.

Well I was just hinting that is sad when a guy like you does a real cool bit of programming and somebody says they dont like the font color. duh. ??

Oops, looks like I misinterpreted what you said… my brain shuts down in the afternoon:-)

Its just that without meaning to – in my mind at least – one theme can have many styles. We are going to get the default looking groovy but at the same time we know folks are going to edit. Its full title is Aphrodite in Regency ??

*stares at root and ifelse (and their sites) in awe*

    Nothing fancy.

interesting thread, I’ve wanted to do something similar and may well do so, perhaps with gespaa 2 columns as the base:)

i used your theme and hacked it into 2 column but in IE the two column shows above each other, any ideas how to fix this.

    Thanks in advance

    Iraq,
That theme was never really designed for 3 columns. However, take a look at the css behind experimental test if you want a quick answer.

ifelse, what did you do to handle the first post differently than the older posts? Very nice looking site.

I don’t get it ? where did you put the (navcol……class)???

I’m really new to this system (installed yesterday ?? ) so im not familliar with the terminology, so if this question has been answered, i’m sorry.

basicly what i’m wondering is how did you make the 2nd column of posts (the ‘shorts’ section)? and what is this called?

i also love the minimized links to older posts at the bottom, makes the site very clean.

Shorts is my own terminology. They’re also known as asides, remainders and miniblogs.

For my own site, I had to develop it from scratch but Khaled (of Manji/Rin fame) pointed out that there’s a plugin written by BauB that does the same thing. I’ve tested it out in my sandbox and it’s a fantastic plugin and one I wished I had 3 months ago.
