    Hello,

I would like the text to speech to ignore images so it doesn’t say ‘Image’ when it gets to one. Anyone had any joy with this? I’ve tried uploading a Lexicon to blank it out but doesn’t seem to work.

    Thanks

    Hi,
The default behaviour is that it will read ALT attribute of the image, if it’s not there it will read ‘image’. Could you try to put empty ALT attribute (https://www.w3schools.com/tags/att_img_alt.asp) – it might work? I will try to allow in future to make it easier to skip it.

It should be ignored in 2.6.3. Let me know if it’s not working.

I have the same issue. Version 2.6.3 does not seem to ignore reading the image alt. Is there a setting somewhere for it?

Hi, This is something a bit different. In the past the plugin was reading word ‘Image’ – with or without ALT present. But if ALT is there – it will be read. Do you think there should be a possibility to ingore it? Can I ask why?

    Cheers,

    Hi again,

It is a possible reason. When it reads a post, it reads first the title if present and then if there is an image next, like we have for all of our blog posts, it reads the alt. So, we generally set the alt as the post title. When Polly reads the post it will read the title and then the alt, which in our case is the same. I disabled the titles in our posts to prevent this. You can hear the difference in the recording made before I turned off the title at

Compare this to a post I edited, thus forcing Polly to record again. It eliminated the title, and says the post name only once because it reads the alt. See here:

    https://www.inspiredhousewife.com/how-to-love-yourself-by-making-you-the-priority/

If I had a preference I would rather have my post titles present, and it not read the alt. Also, I have a number of images throughout the post, and it interrupts the narrative every time to read the image alts. So, a helpful option of the plugin could be to have a checkbox to read or not read image alts.

    Thanks for your response.

I have the same issue. The voice doesn’t pause between the image Alt tag (which screen readers and bots require) and the first word of the post. It muddles them together, causing an awkward start to the read. It does the same with other images in the post. Where the image code is placed varies a bit from where the image is displayed, so the placement of the alt tags can show up in the middle of a sentence, etc.

I added a period to the end of the Alt tag which causes a pause. But the Alt tag content is about the image, not the text body so its disconcerting unless someone is used to using a screen reader.

An option to ignore Alt tags would be great.
    Thanks!
