I use ITSecurity plugin on many of my sites. These sites are on the same server, same server config, same theme, same plugin sets. However on a few of my sites the file change detection warning feature to ignore certain files like wp-content/cache or wp-content/advanced-cache.php are not being ignored. i have the most updated version of the plugin installed and the latest version of wordpress core.

Any reason why this might be occurring and how to fix?

Should I try deactivating the plugin and deleting it and installing a fresh version?

Side note and not sure if it matters but i noticed the ICON in the left menu of the admin on one of my newer sites the icon is cog wheel but on some of these older sites, even with updated newest versions of the plugin, still show the shield plugin

Hi @davebpure, thank you for reaching out. May I know if you are using WP-Optimize? If so, could you please include the wp-content/wpo-cache folder in the File Change excluded files? Then, please enable the iTSec Debug and load the file-change raw settings and see if the cache folders are all listed under “file_list”.

In case the issue persists, I would definitely recommend conducting a plugin and theme conflict check. Please note that deleting the iTSec plugin from the WP Plugin page will have you repeat the onboarding process again.

I hope this helps, and please let me know how it goes.

FYI, I have exactly the same problem all of a sudden since a recent update.
For me it’s on 50+ sites.
I use WP-Optimize too, copied the instructions as above but get another new problem (have opened a support thread on that)

But I can’t be doing this on 50+ sites, so I hope you discover what the issue is and update with a fix as I’ve not updated other plugins when this problem started, and as suggested no doubt a clash with something else.

I do not use wp optimize. I prefer not to delete the plugin and reinstall but if that fixes it then the 5mins it takes to run through the setup is worth it. Any other ideas before I go that route?

Just make sure the site is not hosted on a Windows based server. I know for a fact that the code of the File Change feature is not properly dealing with Windows paths.

    Not on a windows server

Are file changes which are being reported in the File Change Warning email, using an absolute or relative path?

    (@davebpure)

No. I deleted and reinstalled as a test on one site and it fixed it. Gonna try another site and see if it works again.

@nlpro the path in the notification email looks like this in the sites that it’s not working. Not sure if this is what you meant by absolute url

    wp-content/cache/page_enhanced/amairservice.com/air-shows/_index_slash_ssl.html_old

That is the correct relative path (relative to the WordPress install directory). So unfortunately another dead end …

Hi @davebpure, thank you for the update. May I know if re-installing a fresh copy of the plugin resolved the issue on the main site with the issue?

@shanedelierrr yes i have tried this on 3 sites now and it seems to have done the trick. Had to deactivate plugin, delete plugin, reinstall plugin and redo all the setup setting stuff. Seems like there should be a better option from the plugin support team but an easy fix.

Hi @davebpure, thank you for the update, and I’m glad to know that the reinstallation worked. I have created a bug report for this and would like to add your site details to the report. Would you please provide the following:

    -Browser
    -PHP Version
    -WordPress Version
    -Plugin Version
    -Any applicable WordPress/console/PHP errors.
-Steps taken leading to the error notice.

    chrome
    7.4
    wp latest
    plugin latest
    no errors
the daily file change report email listed out all files changed not ignoring files set to ignore, iE: advanced-cache.php and wp-content/cache

i attempted to just replace the plugin folder but that didn’t work. I had to uninstall and reinstall the plugin to get it to work.

Hi @davebpure, thank you for sending the details. I have included those in the report. Although I cannot give an ETA when our developers can check/fix the issue, rest assured I’ll get back to you once I receive an update. Thank you for your patience!
