Hi guys, just wondering if you could give me a hand getting the below error, ive had a look in forum and although some ppl did report the same issue thread either hasnt gotten a response or they fixed it without identifying the issue.

Unable to create directory C:\inetpub\wwwroot\<<domainfolder>>/wp-content/uploads/2009/06. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

Now what I am basically trying to do is upload an old WordPress xml file to a new server (new instance of WordPress) using the Tool > Import option and I am getting the above error.

I dont believe it to be just a user privalages issue as I have allowed IIS7 user full write control and even that everyone group full contro (on a temp basis) to test it out and I am still getting same error.

‘Im wondering about the switch from use of \ with Windows to the / or is there something else I am missing?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

  • I am not very good with IIS and WP as their are too many issues. But it is possible you are having an issue with the Linux paths (forward slahes) and Windows paths (back slashes) You could possibly do a search & replace in a text editor and see if that resolves it. Did the exported XML come from a linux install?

Hey webjunk, yes it did and thats where I believed the issue to be but of course wanted some sort of confirmation before I start doing a find \ and replace with / search, thanks for your input though.

    Anyone else any ideas?

    C:\inetpub\wwwroot\<<domainfolder>>/wp-content/uploads/2009/06

that looks like a standard windows path to me
    has to be user privileges

samboll, I was about to say it couldnt be, but then I remembered IIS / Windows also uses the user Anonymous. I gave that user full permissions on a temp basis and we are working ??

    Thanks again everyone
