My website security plugin flagged the file wp-content/smush-webp/smush-webp-test.png.webp as suspect.

Code review at https://potrivit.com/plugin/wp-smushit/ shows it as an illegal file modification.

I do not have (or want) the Pro version that would enable conversion, so I’m baffled why the free plugin needs that folder/file at all.

    Hi @terriz,

I could notice the behaviour with the Free version and I’m bringing this to our Smush team’s attention to resolve the behaviour noticed.

In general, the Pro version of the plugin would create the /wp-content/smush-webp/smush-webp-test.png.webp as part of the Local WebP feature, in order to check whether the server supports proper handling of WebP images.

However, it shouldn’t be created in the Free version and it shouldn’t be causing any critical issue. I’ll make sure it’s addressed asap. Thanks for pointing it out, really appreciate it.

Sorry for any inconvenience due to this.

    Best Regards,

    Nithin
