I’m getting recursive back-ups. I have free version. I chose “Dropbox” for remote storage. Why is Updraft saving to my host (Godaddy). How can I change this?

I don't even have "GoDaddy’s Managed WordPress" so why am I having the same issues described below?

Do I need to report this to the Federal Trade Commission and/or BBB?

I already had Godaddy delete 30Gb of back-up files from their server. However, the problem is already back again.

UpdraftPlus now available on GoDaddy hosting

Customers of GoDaddy’s Managed WordPress hosting may have noticed that UpdraftPlus has been blocklisted for the past few months.

UpdraftPlus was blocklisted because the specifics of the GoDaddy configuration meant backups were consuming large amounts of server resources. More specifically, servers were configured to use a cron interval which was timing out before temporary backup files could be cleaned up.

We’ve been working hard to implement performance improvements to satisfy GoDaddy’s requirements.

We’re happy to announce that as of versions 1.22.23 (free) and 2.22.23 (Premium), GoDaddy has lifted the restrictions on UpdraftPlus.

If you previously had UpdraftPlus Free or UpdraftPlus Premium installed on your GoDaddy Hosted site, you can now reactivate the plugin (after updating to the latest version).

It appears that my server stats are shooting through the roof when Updraft is in the process of actually backing-up and then it falls back down shortly afterwards. 2-26-2023

A Godaddy technical support person removed (from their server) approx. 40gb of data that was attributed to Updraft.

In the settings tab >> show expert settings, do you have the option to “Delete local backups” checked?

If you do and you are still seeing backups stored on your hosting, can you send a screenshot of the files and paste your log using a tools such as https://pastebin.com/

This log is too large for pastebin: “You have exceeded the maximum size of 512 kilobytes per Paste.”

    Hi,

My apologies for the late reply.

Looking at the screenshot it shows .tmp files. As per FAQ here, UpdraftPlus cleans up (removes) all temporary files that are more than 24 hours old.

    Thanks,

    Hi,

Apologies for the delay in replying.

From the log, it appears that your uploads folder is very large (approx. 18GB). This is why the backups are taking up a lot of resources.

In order to help reduce the size of the backups, the following folders should be added to the Uploads backup exclusion list:

    • wc-logs
    • wp-migrate-db
    • wpfc-backup

You may also know of some other folders in the uploads directory which does not need to be included in the backup.

Regarding the files left in the updraft plus directory, these appear to be temporary ‘.tmp’ files, and should be automatically cleaned up by the server within 24 hours.

If not, there is possibly an issue with the server’s cleanup, which your hosts will need to look into.

    Hi Support,

Just lately, Updraft hasn’t been deleting files after uploading them to Dropbox.

    See screenshot: https://www.dropbox.com/s/zg1swttlu4gjmnz/Screen%20Shot%202023-05-26%20at%206.54.59%20AM.png?dl=0

Also, a few upload and back-up attempts have failed.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks, Monty
