My website was auto-updated to 6.3.2 recently, and I’m getting a new error with the Image Block. When I attempt certain operations on an image using the toolbar, the image disappears and is replaced with “This block has encountered an error and cannot be previewed.”

The operations I’ve identified are: Align, and Add Caption. If the image already has a caption, pressing Remove Caption works correctly, but subsequently pressing Add Caption triggers the error.

If the image already has a caption, any attempt to edit the caption by clicking on it also triggers the error.

This doesn’t seem to affect how the images appear on the front-end, and reloading the page in the editor restores the image, but the error persists.

I’ve encountered this error on two different devices: a mobile display and a laptop. My site does not use any caching plugins.

The error does not occur when I edit my post in Troubleshooting Mode, so perhaps 6.3.2 is conflicting with one of my plugins.

I can get around this problem by placing a Classic Block and using it to place and caption my images.

Update: a plugin titled Insert Special Characters was the source of the error. I just updated it to its most recent version (1.1.1) and the errors have stopped.
