Image blocks relative url

Hi @johan_walter – I don’t think this is something specific to the block editor; image file paths pre-Gutenberg were also absolute. (You can test this by temporarily activating the Classic Editor plugin, if you like.)

I’d recommend using a search-and-replace plugin to change these when moving a site to a different domain, such as this one.

There are also plugins like this one which can switch WordPress’s default URLs to relative ones, if you have a good use case for doing so.

Thanks for plugin suggestion, I will use one of them
Gutenberg is a huge improvement for WordPress (my opinion), maybe it would be also an improvement to consider to handle relative URL.
Even if WordPress has always used absolute URL in pre-Gutenberg period, relative URL can be post-Gutenberg
I am curious to know why absolute URL would keep on being used.
Note: I didn’t mention hyperlink and button because I write them as relative URL in visual editor.
Image URL is automatically absolute and can be changed only editing the code in code editor. I made a test to change URL as relative in code editor, it works so Gutenberg / WP supports relative URL

Few years ago, in Settings > Medias the option with a check box to check or uncheck came up. Now we can still organize medias in month and years or directly in /wp-content/uploads file

Relative or absolute URL for images is a core issue so we could consider to have in Settings > Medias the option with check box “store medias as absolute URL” check or uncheck, if “uncheck” medias will be relative
Any user would have the choice

FYI, I have just checked a stagging website “shop online” with Woocommerce, all images from Woocommerce are relative ; all products have an image from the stagging website https://demo.xxxxx.com
Images from woocommerce categories are also relative
On same website, all pictures in pages with Gutenberg are absolute.

In Medias, path for all images is also a hyperlink link to https://demo.xxxxx.com/wp-uploads/content/
