I am installing a gallery on a webpage. I am using the Gallery layout option. I want the box that thumbnail image shows up to be larger. I have increased the size of my thumbnails, but the box that they show up in in the Gallery layout is not big enough for the whole image to show. See here:
The top row of images is the gallery format. The images below were added via the Media Upload button.

@mary53lane – Thanks for the examples … it appears you may be cropping the thumbnails when you are creating them which would create the limited view you are seeing.

Have a look at the options under Gallery > Other Options > Thumbnail Options … once those are set to your preferences you will need to use the Bulk Action under Gallery > Manage Galleries to generate new thumbnails using the new options you set.

Once done, you may need to re-insert the existing inserted displays for the new thumbnails to be used immediately as well as possibly needing to clear the image cache under Gallery > Other Options > Miscellaneous

    Thanks!

I am pretty sure I am not cropping the thumbnails.

I did reset the size of the thumbnails and then chose the Create new thumbnails in the Gallery itself and they did resize to the larger size.

I tried inserting the Gallery again, rather than assuming that the initial gallery insert would update with and the images are still clipped off because the thumbnails are bigger than the box they are being put in.

I have seen the Clear cache folder but have never known what it did and so was reluctant to explore, just in case I did something that was not reversible. Can you explain what Clear the cache does?

    thanks for your help.

@mary53lane – NextGEN Gallery builds a temporary internal cache of displayed galleries, clearing the cache just does that which causes the plugin to start rebuilding the cache again; or, in other words, renders the displayed galleries as though they have not been viewed before (or as though they were just freshly inserted).

    Thanks!
