image caption not working correctly

I have the latest version of the plugin installed (1.1.6) for my bbpress and it’s still not showing the captions correctly. The default behavior is wordpress doesn’t parse the caption shortcode so you just see the shortcode as text in the forum posts. I was able to resolve that by downloading a second plugin to allow shortcodes in bbpress. The problem is the shortcodes are still showing up in the excerpt text. What can I do to fix this?
