Image Caption Problem
-
Hi, I have a problem with captioning photos in Lightbox. Previously, the Lightbox displayed a Title, Alternative Text, or Caption below a photo. Now only the signature is displayed. Because I have thousands of photos with Title and Alt Text, my clients lost important photo descriptions. How to fix it?

I’m having the same problem with Alt Text no longer showing. I posted a separate help request just now.
I’m not alone. From what I’ve read, it may have something to do with recent updates. If you have information on how to fix this, please let me know. Thank you
I’m still waiting for a resolving response on my ticket but I’ll let you know if anything turns up helpful. I also suspect this is a glitch from a recent update.
Support suggested I use Captions (which also doesn’t seem to render on mobile iOS). Also not looking forward to going through hundreds of images to add Captions, when Alt Text was rendering just fine before. Good luck.
Hi @pinkpillowpolska ,
I understand you’re experiencing an issue with alt text appearing on product images in the image gallery popup.
Upon investigation, I noticed that this issue didn’t occur in recent versions. After rolling back to some Woocommerce previous version with default store theme, it seems the Image Title text was being rendered instead of the alt text. In the newer version, the caption text appears instead of the Title Text. However, some themes might override the default WooCommerce template for the product page, which could result in incompatibility with recent updates. Could you please confirm which theme you’re using and share how it appeared previously? If you have any earlier screenshots, that would be helpful.
Additionally, it would help us to review your current System Status Report for more insight into your setup. You can find this report in your WooCommerce dashboard under WooCommerce > Status. From there, select Get system report and then Copy for support.
Once you’ve gathered this information, please paste it into a Code block in your reply or use Pastebin.com to share the link with us.
Looking forward to hearing from you!
Hi, thanks for your reply. It may be as you wrote that the Image Title was always displayed in the Lightbox instead of the Alt Text (in my case it was usually the same texts), so I could have made a mistake. Now nothing is displayed except the Caption Text if I type anything there.
I use:
– WordPress/Woocommerce,
– Astra theme
– Elementor`

You’re correct that the Image Title tag was previously used for display in image popups in older versions. However, it seems you may have mistaken it for the Alt Text. Recent updates introduced new features and fixes related to the Product Gallery, which may now require switching from the Title tag to the Caption for proper functionality.
I understand that updating captions for many images can be a time-consuming task. To simplify this process, you might consider using a bulk caption updater plugin, such as Auto Image Attributes from Filename with Bulk Updater. Please note that we don’t provide support for third-party plugins in our WooCommerce forum.
If you believe this behavior requires attention or could be improved, feel free to report it on the WooCommerce GitHub repository: https://github.com/woocommerce/woocommerce/issues.
Thank you for your understanding!
Thanks for trying to help, but that doesn’t solve the problem. Most of my image file names are something like 06072024_331763113.jpg
It’s a pity that the update does not include the option to display a title or caption. In Elementor there is an option to choose what should be displayed in the Lightbox, but apparently Woocommerce overwrites everything.Hi @pinkpillowpolska ,
As mentioned earlier, I’ve tried to replicate the issue, but I couldn’t reproduce it. The image caption appears correctly on my side with the latest WooCommerce version 9.4.2.
Since the issue is occurring on your end, I recommend temporarily switching to a default WordPress theme and deactivating all plugins except WooCommerce. You can also perform a full conflict test using this guide:?How?to?Test?for?Conflicts. Once you identify the culprit, you can contact the plugin or theme author for further investigation.
I hope this helps!
