Image crop only works correctly on main site

    In my multisite installation, if I do this procedure:

    1. go to Media Library
    2. click ‘add new’
    3. find a jpg file on my computer to upload
    4. edit newly uploaded image
    5. perform interactive crop
    6. save cropped image

    On my main site, it works fine – the cropped image now becomes the thumbnail image in the media library grid view.

    On any other sites in the network, the original image remains in the media library grid view, the newly created cropped image does not take its place.

    This is a fresh install of 4.3.1 with NO plugins and vanilla twenty-fifteen theme. For the life of me I cannot figure out why the behavior is incorrect on the network sites, but working fine on the main site.
