Image does not appear when sharing links on Facebook

    Dear Jetpack Team,
    I’m happy with your plugin and have been using it for almost 10 years now.

    The issue I have is that when I post links on Facebook, image is not appearing, just blank space.
    Of course, I tried the debugging tool multiple times, but it does not help.
    I am also using Yoast SEO.
    The plugins are updated.

    Can you please help me out?

  • Hi @mtotev,

    I can see that you mentioned sharing to Facebook through Jetpack Social, and that the image isn’t getting fetched there. I tested using the Facebook Sharing Debugger, and confirmed that Facebook isn’t reaching the image for some reason.

    Your image:og tags are included by Yoast SEO there, so the issue is neither Yoast SEO nor Jetpack. At this point, I’d suggest reaching out to your hosting provider, and have them investigate whether you have hotlinking protection turned on, or any server restrictions that may disallow access to your images, which is causing Facebook’s server to not be able to fetch/get them.

    Hi Mehdi,

    What I found out is that due to the fact that the images are named in Bulgarian – Cyrillic alphabet and thier url paths include cyrillic letters, Facebook is no longer showing them. THis was never a problem up until a few weeks ago.

    I wonder if this will stay like this or they will fix it.

    Do you have any hints?

    Hi @mtotev,

    Kudos for noticing the pattern there. It does seem to be the case; however, that’s solely on Facebook’s side, since they have to fetch/get the image from the OG:Image tags on your post (which are referencing the correct image source links).

    I’d suggest changing the naming there, since it’s the only thing within your control, and it’s not possible to affect how Facebook deals with those URLs.
