    User images/avatars in WordPress are not stored in your WordPress database. It is loaded from https://en.gravatar.com/
    Thus upon user import, images will be loaded from Gravatar automatically.

    I’m not sure I follow. We upload images of our users when we set them up so how would they be stored somewhere else?

    As you could see from the screenshot, in WordPress, there is no option to upload or set a profile picture out of the box.

    You might be using some other plugin to set it up. The basic version plugin does not support any metadata.
