    Hello,

We are experiencing that the X2 images that are being generated are being doubled or sometimes even being tripled in file size.

Is there a way to prevent this from happening?
Could it help if we disabled the WordPress image quality compression?

    Thank you

    An example:

    2510 x 1790 original version = 208kb
    837×597 version = 69kb
    837×597@x2 version = 771kb

how can this image that is smaller in dimensions exceed the much larger original version?

    Hi @jorisdw13,

Unfortunately, that’s an issue of WP (and the library it’s using to resize file). Your original file is well optimized by you (Photoshop, or I am not sure what).

In fact, 837×597@x2 (which is 1674×1194) is quite a big image, and 771kb is a normal size for it. If your server use gzip (it normally does) it should be smaller when actually transferred. You could also try to use an optimization plugin if you want the files generated by WP to be smaller. You can also try the CDN solution proposed by Perfect Images ?? It will optimize this and much more.

    Hi Jordy,

Thank you for taking the time to answer my question.
Yes, we take down the quality of these files quite a bit.

Would a solution be to set it so WordPress does not compress the images?
Or will this not make a difference.

    Thank you
