Image gallery caption not responsive?

I have used the built-in (no plugin) WP image gallery.

When I reduce the screen size the images itself are responsive and it all works great, yet the captions disappear. Is there anything I can do about this? Otherwise the feature seems pretty useless on mobile devices and I’d have to revert back to using a plugin.

Any ideas?
