Image gallery editor with wp_editor

Hey All!

I’ve got a very specialized site that incorporates an on-page editor facilitated with the wp_editor() function. Almost everything works great EXCEPT adding/editing image galleries. Instead of showing the usual UI/UX for an existing gallery (or a gallery newly created with the on-page version) in the editor, it just shows the shortcodes.

Clearly, there’s a difference in how wp_editor() works verses the editor in the admin. For instance, I noticed that there are necessary js files NOT included with wp_editor(). Is there a way to fix that? Is it possible to have wp_editor() behave exactly as the editor in the admin?
