So now I’ve asked a lot of people about this problem without results. Hoping that you guys can help.

I created this site https://www.schlagerfeber.com/media/ like 3 months ago with Elementor. As you can see these image-galleries looks pretty good. Even if the images are in different real sizes, most of them shows up like even boxes. (I put thumbnail as size in Elementor)

Now on this new page I’m working on https://www.martinkagemark.com/galleri/, I’ve done the exact same thing but it looks like a mess. I’ve put thumbnail as the image size but depending on how big the image really are, the bigger or smaller it appears on the screen in the gallery. So if the image is vertical, it’s bigger than the horizontal ones. But even if I have like two horizontal images beside each other and they have different heights, you can tell by looking at the gallery. I just want all images to get the same width and height and the same gap between them.

I’ve already tried to create new pages, change themes and deactivate plug-ins and so on but without results. It’s only this image-gallery element that doesn’t work on this domain.. everything else works. And also, this site is a big schoolproject that should be done soon so I’m getting all stressed about it!!! ??

One thing I also can tell you, is that in WP-settings-media I’ve changed the size for thumbnail several times and I can see a change in the gallery, but they doesn’t show as the size I’m putting in there. So for example if I put 300x300px, the thumbnails in the gallery doesn’t show a square. And depending on the image’s real sizes, they appear different. Like if something disturbs the “language” between WP and Elementor?

  • Is it possible that some of your images have a width or height that is smaller than 300px (or whatever your thumbnail size currently is)? For example, I see that https://www.martinkagemark.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Phantom-of-the-Opera-16-2-280×480.jpg is 280×480, so you won’t have a 300×300 image to show. If this is the problem, change your thumbnail size to something smaller than the smallest edge of your images. If 280px is the smallest for instance, make your thumbnails 280×280.

That’s the only time I’ve ever seen this happen. If, for example, I choose a Large size of 1084×1084 but I have an image that is 500×1200, it won’t have a 1084×1084 square image to display, since the width is only 500px. So it will display a vertical size.

You also may want to try clearing any server cache or cache plugins you have running, and even regenerating css in the Elementor > Tools. May not help, but it’s quick and painless to do just in case.

    Hi!

Well, I might have some images that’s smaller than 300×300 haha, I havn’t thought about that actually. But I did a quick search now and I didn’t find more of those small pictures. I changed the thumbnail size in WP to 150×150, I guess it’s the default size. But this image: https://www.martinkagemark.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/JCS-turn%C3%A9-Gunilla-Martin-14.jpg doesn’t show 150×150. Perhaps 100×150, even if the image is wider than 100px. The same for every image under “The Phantom of the Opera” gallery. I thought that it might be because it’s a vertical photo, and that only the horizontal ones show 150×150, but the image beside the one I linked before is also in vertikal and shows 150×150 as thumbnail. Doesn’t make any sense at all.. getting so tired of this.

I called the hosting company and asked them about clearing the server cache and they answered me like “hmmm okey, never heard that one before”, and then they startered to search on Google? I mean, is it hard to clear server cache? Can I do it myself? I don’t have any plug-ins for cache, and I have renerating the css in Elementor several times. Even tried this on different browsers and computers but still doesn’t work.

Well… I actually have Elementor Pro for the other site, Schlagerfeber.com. But this shouldn’t depend on that, right? Only have the free version of Elementor for the site I have trouble with.

Sounds like you were speaking with a rookie support rep at your hosting company. No, it’s not hard to clear server cache. It’s possible your host doesn’t have any server cache active but many do, so it’s good to find out.

What happens if you do a normal WordPress image gallery on a non-Elementor page? Does the same issue occur?

Haha maybe so. I hope they will give me some answers tomorrow.

I don’t know so much about editing in WordPress editor but I gave it a try now just because you asked. Take a look at: https://www.martinkagemark.com/test/. Now every picture is the same size, thumbnail. Why doesn’t this show in Elementor? What do you think can be wrong? I mixed the pictures as you can se on this test-page. So I got both vertical, horizontal, big and small. But every picture fills out the box.

I just tested a similar mix of images on a test domain, in case there’s a bug I didn’t know about, but it worked fine. All the various sizes of images, horizontal and vertical, showed up as perfect squares using the thumbnail size within Elementor’s Image Gallery plugin. And as you said, you have it working fine on another site. And the default WP gallery works so it’s not image or thumbnail related. So, I’m running out of ideas. Could you share links to screenshots of what the widget settings look like in the editor?

And I know you said you already tried disabling other plugins and changing the theme, but it might be worthwhile to try that one more time just to be sure you didn’t miss keeping one plugin still enabled.

You do have a lot going on with that one page, so perhaps isolating it to a new page, with just one gallery, and seeing how that works, then building slowly from there – may find a problem that way.

Hello again! I found the problem… all I had to do was to upload the images again. So now it looks exactly like on my other site.. thank god for that! ?? Okey, not right now cause I got to find time to replace them first!

Don’t know why the images just don’t understand right away that I did a change in the settings. I’ve had a million guys to support me in this and no one had found the “problem”. It wasn’t so hard.. haha. I believe I’m not the only one with this, but couldn’t find anything on Google ??

Anyways.. thankyou for all the time you gave me in here. Means a lot!

Happy you found the solution. Now that I realize the sequence of events, you may not need to reupload everything. You can use Regenerate Thumbnails plugin – https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/regenerate-thumbnails/ to recreate the thumbs at the new size. Sorry I didn’t think of it earlier. Since it worked via WP, I assumed the sizes had been generated.

Thanks but I’ve already changed the pictures haha! I did’t take long. ??
