Image Gallery plugin for large amounts of large photos

    I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on a photo gallery that can handle a heavy traffic load.

    A majority of the images I am uploading are between 3-8mb, and there are thousands of them (currently 16gb worth) and every 2 months it will increase by another 2-3gb.

    I would like the plugin to have a gallery mode to browse thumbnails of pictures, and a slideshow option would be a plus.

    This plugin is being used for an ongoing event website, As soon as the pictures are released, it will have high traffic for a few days and then die off till next event, so looking for something thats stable and quick, so the website doesnt slow down.

    It doesnt matter if the pictures are hosted on a different server (such as photobucket or another image service) and embedded on the website, or if all the data is hosted on my website.

    Can be free or paid, just want something, stable, fast and can handle the heavy load.
