Image Issues after moving from Squarespace to WordPress

  • I recently moved a website from Squarespace to WordPress, and have run into multiple issues with the images on the new WP blog. Most elements have transferred over nicely, the one exception being images. There are a few issues that I would like to resolve:

    1. Image duplicates
    2. The images aren’t appearing in the same position on the page
    3. The images are different sizes than they were in Squarespace
    4. The images sometimes are completely missing altogether

    Unfortunately, this problem extends to 545 posts in total. I don’t want to manually edit each post, and I imagine there are plugins that would allow me to batch edit. However, does anyone have any ideas about the root of the problem? I suspect if that issue is addressed, then I wouldn’t have to fix the chaos it caused with the images.

  • 1. Image duplicates

    That’s probably because you have the same image you’ve set as the featured image also inserted in the post, and your theme is displaying the featured image (aka post thumbnail) on the post/page. Most themes will allow you to disable the featured image on single posts and pages.

    2. The images aren’t appearing in the same position on the page

    This is likely due to differences in CSS styles (eg alignment, etc) between your chosen WordPress theme and Squarespace’s CSS styles. This can easily be changed, either in the theme’s options or via custom CSS code.

    3. The images are different sizes than they were in Squarespace

    Again, this could be a theme/CSS issue, and I’ll need to take a look to see exactly what’s going on.

    4. The images sometimes are completely missing altogether

    I’ll need to take a look at an example case where an image is missing on the post to see what’s going on.

    If you could share your site’s URL showing specific instances of the four problems you mentioned, I could take a closer look and give you more specific and useful advice.
