Image loads twice in pop out slideshow

Started using this for my website to try and solve some gallery issues I’ve been having. I haven’t uploaded anything from this plugin on to my website as I feel this problem would look sloppy on the website so sorry I couldn’t include my website for reference.
When I make a new ‘Portfolio’, link it into a post and then press preview, the images look great and I love them, however when I click on them to come out in almost a slideshow format they seem to load twice. When i click the arrow to go to the next image it reloads the image I was already on, meaning I have to click the arrow twice to get it to move on to the next image.. Wondering if there was a solution for this or I was going wrong along the way somewhere?
Also is there a way for when the images come out of the slideshow there is another way to get out of it apart from pressing ‘esc’ on the keyboard. Such as a cross button at the top or click off the image and it goes..
