i am building a wordpress site that will end up using a lot of images (hundreds or more), and sometimes reuse the ones i have.

the current “uploads” feature i have, only lets me browse all, and there is not a really any way of sorting through the images. also, it is browsing by thumbnails.

this isn’t very conducive to quickly searching for archived images that i may want to reuse or organize based on name, or topic.

is there a way to browse through uploaded images based on name only, or some kind of better uploads management system.

or is there a better way / utility i should be using to handle my images?

  • For my blog, I don’t use WordPress to handle the images. I use Gallery to upload, and manage my images. Let me know if you want a link to a tutorial on how to install Gallery and use it.

Hi srikat, I’d be interested in the info you mentioned. Thanks!

If you feel that Gallery is an overkill, you can try the lighter ‘Singapore’ gallery.

The key is that your chosen gallery should be able to resize your uploaded images to dimensions that fit in your blog posts. In my blog, I usually put screenshots that are at 500px width and Gallery takes care of generating a thumbnail of that dimension.

I then write the HTML code to display the thumbnail and link it to the full sized image (using Dreamweaver).

    thanks everyone,

I’ve decided to quit on the wordpress image handling and have gone with a flickr Pro account because it is much more user friendly than trying to extend the current image handling in wordpress.
