• Can anyone point me to some up-to-date info on image/media managment?

The information in the docs and in the sticky post at top of this forum are way out of date for vers. 3.0

I need instructions on how to get images from the library into posts and pages. I can open the pop-up browser to load new or access uploaded/gallery images, but there’s no way I can find to then insert them into darn post/page that I’m editing.

Really, I’m not that thick, but this is not at all intuitive, and I can find nothing on it that isn’t out of date. The instructions given in editor built in help, the docs, etc just don’t match what I’m seeing and what the software is doing.

    Thanks, Bob.

Just looked at the following new post

    https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/return-not-working-with-images-in-editor?replies=1

The screenshot shows that there is a media icon present on the editor toolbar that’s missing on mine. Looks like a strip of film, between the ‘custom character’ and ‘remove formatting’ icons. Is this the button I’m missing to be able to insert media?
The other four media icons above the toolbar labelled upload/insert are all present and working fine.

    Anyone have any ideas?

    Hi Bob,

Sounds like you’re having a frustrating time. I landed here from your other post where you were asking about a consultant.

What you’ll want to do is use the “Image” media button you reference above the toolbar. Click that image button and it’ll open up the “Upload” panel. Click the tab at the top of the pop up that says “Media Library”.

You should now see some images you have previously uploaded, but not all of them if you’ve uploaded a lot. This page is paginated so you’ll have to click through to the subsequent pages to browse them all, or you can use the search box at the top if you remember your file name or key words in your file name or description.

Once you find your image, click “Show” to the right of the thumbnail and it’ll pull up that images info. At the bottom of the info, is “Insert into post”. Click that and shazzam, your image is inserted!

Pro tip: Make sure before you start, to put the cursor into the post editor wherever you want your image to appear. ??

Hope that helps. Look me up outside the forums if you need some consulting help. Cheers!

    Hi Esmi and Marty,

Already found that in docs, Esmi, but, like I said, it doesn’t match what I’m seeing or what the software is doing, so no go.

For instance, under the heading ‘Inserting Images’, the first instruction given is to click once on the image to open up a pop-up menua with selections. No such thing happens, no matter where I click on the image (the instructions don’t define if the image to be clicked is in the library, or in the pop-up opened after using the media icon, as Marty describes, but anywhere I click on an image, nothing happens at all).

Thaks Marty, I’ve already used the media pop-up you describe, tho there are differences; ‘Media Library’ is labelled as ‘Gallery’, but same diff’ I guess, and I can use all the features just fine, but there is no ‘Insert into Post’. Just doesn’t exist.
There is a ‘Make Featured Image’, which I can use just fine, but once used it can not be used again, so it wont let me add more than one image to a post.
When using a page rather than post, the ‘Make featured image’ option isn’t even there, and with no ‘Insert Image’ to click, there’s just no way to get a single image into a page, let alone several.
This is what I mean about the things described in the docs just not matching what I’m seeing, so they’re not a lot of help.

Thanks for trying anyway, guys ??
    Bob.

    Hi Bob,

Often the codex can be out of date, you’re right. I’ve run into that frustration before myself, but having worked with WordPress for quite a while, I can usually figure it out or ask someone else, although that happens less and less nowadays.

The instructions I gave weren’t from the codex, but I actually walked through it myself and typed directions as I went from one of my own sites. If you are finding things mislabeled, etc. that is a weird issue. I infer from your first post you’re using at least 3.0, right?

@bob: You’re using WPMU which can be a little different to WP. I’d suggest asking for help on the Multisite forum. That’s where the real MU experts hang out.

Thanks Esmi, I’ll try the MU forum, didn’t twig to that one ??

Yeah Marty, wpmu+buddypress with a few plugins, it’s a wpmu dev custom install, so I’d assume it to be done properly, I’d not be game to do it myself ??

I’d already put in an inquiry with the wordpress helpcentre guys to try their paid support when I read your offer, Marty, but I tried finding a contact for you anyway, but there’s no email on your profile. Might want to look at that, coz if these support guys don’t work out I’d be over like a shot. (Now that I’ve got them, I want to give them a fair chance, don’t like backing off from a deal like has been done to me all too often)

Hopefully, one way or another, some progress soon. It’s all a big learning curve eh? Tho’ it’d probably help if I wasn’t so slow, but then the tortoise won the race, right? Heheh.

My site is volutedtales.com, if you want to ever take a squiz, and you can grab me at [email protected].

It’s intended to support my new ezines, (I’m a literary editor) four editions, each once a month, each with their own blog, and the buddypress stuff is just to encourage a small community around the zines of readers, fans, writers, artists, etc. I’m not after anything too fancy, just functional, hence they need to be able to use the basic features, like images, at least.

    Thanks heaps guys. Appreciate it!
    Bob.
