• I noticed that large uploaded images were not being resized nor were they being converted to .webp format. I chatted with support about this and they informed me that the Media settings in SG Optimizer only work for files less than 500kb. So in other words, I have to optimize my uploaded images before site ground optimizes it. This not only defeats a large point of the plugin (to automatically resize and convert images), but it’s also misleading. It’s frustrating this limitation is not mentioned anywhere in their official docs.

Other than this glaring mistake, the plugin is great.

    Hello @jeronimo42,

    We appreciate your feedback!

I would like to clarify that the WebP conversion and Image Optimization size limits affect PNG images only. There are no size limits for images in other formats. Due to the nature of PNG images, their WebP conversion could take longer and this may lead to unexpected behavior of the plugin.

To avoid unwanted results, SiteGround Optimizer performs size checks for all PNG images and will skip the WebP conversion/Image Optimization for those larger than 500KB.

If you have a website where the plugin fails to generate WebP copies for large images other than PNG, provide us with its URL so we can try to find what might be causing the issue.

    Best Regards,

That’s good to know. This is not what the support person said. Thank you for this clarification. This limitation should be in the documentation.
