    Hi all,
For SEO purpose i would like to provide an image sitemap to search engines from two NGG basic thumbnails galleries on a WP page (using legacy template: gallery.php).

I’m using YOAST SEO plugin to generate XML sitemaps (attachment-sitemap.xml and sitemap_index.xml) but these sitemaps do not includes my NGG galleries images.

Any workaround to generate a sitemap from my NGG Galleries ?

    URL: https://www.jean-payen-ceramiste.fr/photos-ceramique/

    Environment and versions
    Wordpress version: 4.7
    WP Theme: WP Twenty-twelve
    Nextgen Gallery version: 2.1.60
Basic thumbnails galley using legacy template: gallery.php
    Yoast SEO plugin version: 4.02

    Thank you and regards.
    Volpone.

@doublesixx – We do not generally recommend using the “gallery” NextGEN Legacy template as it serves a better purpose as a guideline in creating NextGEN Legacy templates than being used specifically.

We are aware that our Yoast SEO integration needs to be reviewed and updated and with that I do not have anything to specifically offer at this time as a work-around. Also to note, any updates/modifications to our code and its potential for better integration with Yoast SEO will not be migrated into any of the bundled NextGEN Legacy templates as we have been retaining them primarily for backward compatibility.

    Thanks!

    Thank you Cais,

I hope some progress in Yoast SEO integration soon, image gallery SEO is very important to gain audience.

About thumbnails gallery template is the current “default” template a replacement for legacy gallery.php template with the same look and feel and suitable for the forthcoming SEO enhancements ?

@volpone75 – We will not likely be making any changes to the NextGEN Legacy templates and as is, the default (read: blank) template for Basic Thumbnails should accomplish everything the legacy template provides unless there have been some customizations added to its code. As far as any “SEO enhancements” those would only affect default templates from an overview perspective although they may carry through the images specifically within legacy templates (it’s just not something we are currently looking specifically at and may be a happy coincidence instead).

    Thanks!

According to your recommandations i’m now using the “Default” template with my Basic Thumbnails Galleries. No issue, perfect !

I hope soon some SEO enhancements in your code to gain better images visibility for search engines (for example Google images SERP). Currently only thumbnails are indexed by Google and no joy to provide a full image gallery sitemap (with links to the galery full sized images) using YOAST WP SEO.

@volpone75 – They are definitely planned as we do recognize Yoast SEO is commonly used on WordPress sites and also an important plugin for many of our users as well.
