Image Size in Slider

Hi,
I am using the slider just to show some images and having problems getting images to appear in the slider at the correct size. I have created images at 960 x 350 and set the slider display settings to 960 x 350. However, the image appears to be justified to the left and smaller than it should be. This means that there is a large white area to the right of the image. The problem can be seen here: https://vulcan-mdf.com. This happens whether I insert the image into the post content, or, set the image up as Featured Image.
Also, since upgrading to the latest version of WP, there are a number of images appearing that are not set up in any of the 5 posts,but still appearing in the slider. So I am not sure how they are being picked up! Do I have to delete all the posts and create new ones?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
