I want to produce the largest image size I can have that will be able to be Retina enabled. From what I understand, that image size is always 50% of the original image.

Therefore, I’m looking for something that will create an image size of 50% so WP Retina 2x will see as the image sizes: “thumbnail”, “medium”, “large”, and “half.”

    Any suggestions?

Nope, it’s not 50% of the original image.
Retina is the double (x2 width x2 height) of the images of each image size.

Why do you want an image that is 50%? I don’t understand…

I’m having problems understanding exactly how Retina works.

    Is the below explanation correct?

I have an image that the dimensions are x. In order to have Retina work for the image (in this case WP Retina 2x), I must display the image at x/2 aka y so it renders for Retina at y*2 which is = x.

Maybe using a real example will help. I want to display my images at their largest possible dimensions where Retina is enabled.

I have an image that’s 1037×648. According to WP Retina 2x, thumbnail and medium have a green check and large has a yellow exclamation mark.

What is the largest dimensions I can display my 1037×648 image at so Retina will be enabled?

    1037×648 / 2…
Maybe you need to read the tutorial and all.

What is the actual size of the image on the page? Without thinking about Retina or anything?

I have read the tutorial several times.

I thought the answer was 1037×648 / 2 — I guess my earlier question was unclear.

So I’m asking: how to I get the image to display at 1037×648 / 2 ?

I think it’s wrong to think this way.

You have an article, and the media size you are using is 500×300. You don’t have to think about anything except inserting the image of the media size 500×300.

Then for Retina displays, of course, an image of 1000×600 will be required… and that’s also why the original image (which you shouldn’t be using anywhere) should be bigger than this size (otherwise you get the exclamation points). But you don’t really need to think about this, just upload an image of a big size, let the plugin do everything, and insert the image that first your content and design.

I have no idea why you dividing, that’s really really confusing, and that’s also why I feel like you didn’t really read the tutorials.

That’s a good point. I need to think about standardizing the media size. Thanks.

Exactly, you need to have your media sizes set-up properly, it is the most important part ??
