1200 px? That’s too big. I don’t understand one thing here – Google says to reduce website loading speed and want’s to go mobile, then how for AMP they are asking such a big size of an image? AMP is designed for mobiles that are not more than 300 pixels wide, then why the hell 1200 pixels. Further 1200 pixels will add make the image size double. Sad! Also on the other side, the Schema image should be 300×300 pixels.

Where is the logic? Dear Google

@ahmedkaludi I am sorry, I am not saying to you but it’s a general expression of any webmaster/blogger.

I generally upload 640 pixel wide image on my blog.

For presentation purposes, google sets that fixed format of 1200 px. it will auto changes the size into a fixed format even if you give less pixel size. that is just a warning message only.

But doesn’t it increase the page size?
Like 1200 pixel wide photo might take anything above 100 KB, where as 640px image for me is generally between 30 kb to 40 kb.

It doesn’t increase the page size. It depends on how much you want to be high-quality images but it shouldn’t be less than 1200 pixels. you must follow some rules for AMP sites if you wish to be index your images in google and don’t want any error in the Google Search console.

Because Google has updated its schema and now google said itself for high-quality pictures. Whenever you search any image in google it shows results according to size. AMP sites are used for high speed, that’s why they can perform better on high-quality images. For that reason The minimum recommended size for images is 1200 pixels.
