Image Titles, Alternate Text, and Caption

  • Hi,

    I had a westion about editing image titles, alternate text, and captions under the media tab.

    Do these fields sit on top of the files on the database, or do they actually change the files.

    For instance, if i changed the image title in wordpress, does the actual file name change in the uploads directory?

    No, the title is a separate field. It holds its own value.

    Great. I was a bit concerned since I’ll be working with a large directory of images with an abstract naming convention. This little bit will be helpful for changing the image titles for SEO while keeping the image directory nice and tidy.

    Yes, assuming you pay attention to your alt titles, which is really what search engines are looking for.

    Um – no. Alt attributes are not for search engines or SEO. They’re for displaying a text alternative to the image when that image cannot be displayed or seen and the image contains information (as opposed to purely decorative “eye candy”)
