Image upload issues – Size reported as 0x0

2 Days sets this post back almost 30 pages? Come on guys. Anyone with any information related to this please post something.

I think your problem is that the image file created on importing it to wordpress is too large. I too had this problem until I used another package to reduce the file size.

Many digital cameras produce an image that for most web uses is too detailed. Even reducing the image size I often find that they need further constraining!

This is the type of image I am uploading. I took it on my Nikon D3100 and compressed to 80% @ 960×768 which makes it 83KB so its not exceeding any upload limits and I am still having problems.

My host claims it is not their fault and they have recompiled apache and php for me, the php memory limit is also set to 128mb. I just wish this was fixed. I am itching to finish writing my posts.

I take pictures on a Nikon D3000 and compress them using Irfan viewer to 40% compression to 197kb at 1549×1037 and that works fine. Sorry not to have helped ??

do you use view nx 2 to get them from the camera?

No, just the MSwindows standard import from a camera.

Something is definitely wrong in WordPress, or it seems like it to me. I’m getting random issues with some images as well. Not all images, just a few here and there – but when they upload the size is set to 0x0. If you look at the preview, the image is fine, and the large version is there, but you can’t edit the image in WordPress and posting it comes out full size.

How can we test to explain the issue?

Is there any way we can get a WordPress rep to actually look into this issue and try and help us? I have tried contacting the wordpress.com team, but all they have done is refer me to the forums on here.

I have this issue, too. I’ve just grabbed a random smallish image off of Google Images to test and the same error happens for me. Not only does the 0x0 error occur but the problem has escalated that even though the html says the image has been inserted into the post, nothing shows up.

Good news, I’ve found the specific reason this is happening.

The answer is that if you’re uploading images with metadata, and that data includes curly quotes, WordPress screws up and can’t read the size of the graphic because it’s getting stuck on those non-web friendly characters.

A good example: I had a press photo from Warner Bros. for a new movie, which had the metadata description that included two sets of curly quotes. I went in through Bridge, changed those curly quotes to regular ones and re-uploaded the image and it worked fine.

If you can’t fix the metadata, the other solution is to resave the file with a program that doesn’t save the metadata. That said, it would be nice if WordPress had a built-in solution.

Meta data should never include curley quotes. Some common punctuation marks in English (curley qotes and dashes, particularly) are encoded differently on different computer systems. WordPress is used world wide with many different character sets and encoding. It would be nice to to worry about it true. Glad you solved your problem.

i had an image that was causing the same problem today. i looked at the metadata for a bunch of images and the problem image had no metadata for the image depth and color mode. i made another jpg from the psd in imageready and it worked fine and had the metadata. is there any way to make wordpress accept images that are missing that data? my client whose site it is won’t be able to troubleshoot images like this.

Same problem and after struggling for two hours, trying all the suggestions, I instead selected “Add an image”. The two photos what had uploaded 0 x 0 at least 10 times trying everything else, uploaded perfectly. I was able to choose thumbnail and they show correctly in my gallery. Seems too simple but at least this finally worked for me.
