Okay, you’re probably all going to want to shoot me for asking this question, but I can’t seem to get image uploading to work… even in 2.5.1. There’s probably a simple fix for this I’m just missing.

From what I can tell, the files are uploading properly (yes, even using IE7 and Vista)… but instead of going to wp-content/uploads, they’re going to wp-admin/wp-content/uploads (which, now that I’ve dug into things a bit, seems to have been created when I first upgraded to 2.5).

What have I done incorrectly? I’ve got the upload folder in settings / miscellaneous set properly (wp-content/uploads). I’ve tried setting the full path with to no avail.

    Any suggestions?

FYI… version 2.6 corrects the problem.

JUST installed the latest 2.7.1 version – and i CANNOT believe this image upload problem is still persistent !

the path it tries to access the photo is:
    ../wp-content/uploads/img_23542.jpg

BUT whenever i try to upload photo, it’s a actually physically located in the root folder:
    ../wp-content/img_23542.jpg

the upload folder is not there. Why is this happening ? I cannot image this bug was left by the development team.

Strangely, i’ve played with the 2.7.0 before and never had this problem before.

HOW COME THE 2.7.1 doesn’t work straight “from the box?!

I’m experiencing the same problem on a client’s machine (All uploads report as if they went to wp-content/uploads/ and really wind up in /wp-content/)

    Fresh install of v2.7

Going to install v2.7.1 and will let you know if this solves the issue.

WordPress 2.7.1 does work straight from the box. So did 2.7 and 2.6 and 2.5. If it’s sending things to the wrong place, then either your host is messed up somehow, or your settings on the Settings->Miscellaneous screen are set incorrectly for some reason.

Have you checked the settings on Settings->Miscellaneous? What are they set to? Did you create the uploads folder in wp-content and give it 777 permissions?

v2.7.1 – Same issue. Anybody solve this one?

The same install works fine on my other server – same fresh install, same theme, etc. I just don’t know what the magic variable is that causes this one.

    Re: “Settings->Miscellaneous”

    Otto42,
This was the problem on my installation (directory was incorrect, permissions we’re ok though) – Thank you!

For some reason unknown to me, the installer set the default upload location to “wp-content”. Changing it to “wp-content/uploads” fixed the issue.

As a side note, even though it was set to “wp-content” the links generated by the Java upload tool reflected the wp-content/uploads directory – does this tool retrieve this location from the same place the “Store uploads in this folder” setting saves to? This may be part of the root of this issue.

    Thanks again,

    Xex
