• Hello, I first want to say that I have read the sticky on this issue as well as several other threads and nothing has helped me.

I have WordPress 2.8.3 hosted on bluehost.com I installed WordPress using simplescrips.com which comes with my bluehost.com account. I think it installed WordPress 2.8.2 initially and I did the upgrade to 2.8.3 from within WordPress by clicking the upgrade button on the dashboard.

I am having problems when trying to upload pictures or video. This is from withing FireFox or Safari and I have the latest version of flash as of last night, I think it is 10.33.18 or something like that.

When I try and upload with the flash uploader I get an IO error. When I try and upload with the browser uploader it times out. Neither one works for me.

This is a real bummer because my site is for my daughter. I want to post pictures and video of her for friends and family.

If anyone can help me out please let me know. Thank you.

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-related problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – reading https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/279132

    – disabling Google Gears if you have that running/installed within Firefox.

Thank you for the suggestions. I deactivated all plugins, changed to the default theme, also reset the plugins folder.

From reading the article you suggested I also downloaded a new copy of WordPress and deleted and replaced the wp-admin folder and wp-includes.

I still have the same problem however. I also have a WordPress 2.8.2 blog setup which is fresh with no plugins at all and it does the same thing.

I imagine that this has to be just me. It would be too big of a problem to ignore which makes me thing it has to be something perhaps with Bluehost. However many people also seem to be running fine on Bluehost as well.

Is anyone else having issues uploading or can you upload just fine? I am trying to upload 4 or 5 pictures to the media library they are all around 500k and fit withing 1024x at the longest side of the pic.

I noticed one thing that was strange. With safari using the flash loader the progress bar stops at some random point and hangs the browser for a bit then I get the IO error in red. It then tries to go to the next picture and things repeat.

With Firefox when it hangs after the browser tries to go to the next picture the WordPress log in screen is shown on the upload page but it is shown within a frame. it does this for each failed picture so I then have a page with several log in screens at the end. Very strange, it makes me thing though there is something wrong with the upload process that is logging me out when I try to upload.

OK here is some more info. I tried at work although I should be working ?? and I have no problems.

At home I use a new less that 6 months old apple laptop. At work a windows PC (dell). It works on the windows machine using Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, and Chrome.

It does not work on my mac using Safari or Firefox. I wonder what this could be? I am positive it is not a problem with my mac it runs great. It must just be something with the mac versions of these browsers or the mac version of flash.

Does anyone use a mac here with success?

Now that we have new lite on the subject can anyone think of what may be causing the issue?

    Thanks

    More info.

I have used the uninstall tool for adobe flash found here https://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html since apparently just upgrading to the newest version is not always enough. I then reinstalled the latest version of flash.

My browser is no longer locking up when I try and download. It also uploaded the first two pictures but it has been stuck on “Crunching…” on the third photo for quite some time now. I am just going to let it time out and see if it gives me an error code.

It seems to me that there is a problem with the mac version of flash though. Can anyone verify if uploads work for them on a mac? Thanks I will keep you posted on the outcome of my current upload.

Well while safari was showing new behavior, Firefox had the same result. It stops with an IO error. So I have no Idea what to do here. The thing is it is not just the flash uploader but the browser uploader as dose not work. When using it it simply takes a long time and then a this page cannot be found error comes up.

That is about all the trouble shooting I can think of. So if you have any ideas let me know.

    Thanks.

I have a MacBook Pro running the latest version of Leopard(eagerly awaiting Snow Leopard!) and have several WordPress blogs with BlueHost. I actually haven’t tried this in Safari, but it works great in FireFox. My MacBook Pro is almost two years old now, but I’ve kept up on the updates. To be honest, I don’t believe I’ve tried it since the latest update and I don’t have my MacBook Pro with me now, but I’ll try it later and let you know if it fails. Two thoughts on this… One, There is something different with the older Macs v.s. the new Macs that causes this; Two, You may have some type of network issue at home that has certain limitations… though I don’t see how this would affect it if everything else is working well. Maybe sometime you should try packing up your Mac and bringing it to the office to see how it works on your break or something…

Thanks for looking into it. I am sure it will be something simple. I just have something causing an issue on my mac.

I have tried this both at work and at home however so I know it is not an internet connection problem.

At home I have DSL at work a T1. At work there is no problem when using my windows computer or my MacBook.

    Anyone got a clue?

If you tried this at work with your same MacBook that you tried at home and it worked, then it shows you there is something amiss with your home network… perhaps a firewall or such setting on your router. If you haven’t tried it with your MacBook somewhere other than on your home network, then the possibility that it is something on your MacBook still exists. To eliminate different possibilities, you should try plugging your MacBook directly into your modem and connecting, try using your MacBook at work, or some other place where you know it works, and see if your MacBook will work.

    I think perhaps you misunderstood.

I tried it at home and at work with my macbook and it does not work at either place.

It does work with my dell laptop from work however.

I have the same problem fisfilet and I’m hosting with Bluehost also.

I’ve tried every fix I can think of or have read here and NOTHING works.

My craps out in Firefox and Safari with the IO error on any larger image (smaller ones work fine).

I simple don’t have a clue why or how to fix it. VERY, VERY, frustrating!!

    Thread Starter fishfilet

    (@fishfilet)

Well it is good to hear it is not just me. I upgraded the other night to the latest WordPress hopping it would fix it but it did not.

For me even small pictures do not work. The files I am trying to upload are all around 300-400k.

I am thinking it has something to do with adobe flash for mac.

Whatever it is I hope it gets fixed someday. Right now it is so difficult to post that I just don’t do it. I have to ftp the files over then add them to post from there. It is a big waist of time.

    fishfilet,

    Nice username btw. ??

Trust me it’s not just you, this is a JOKE in my opinion. I tried it at work yesterday on a Dell and it work just FINE also. But it’s craps out every time on my new IMAC with Safari and Firefox. ANNOYING!!

for me the flash uploader is not working on my iMac and also not on my old Dell laptop, I tried many different browsers, Firefox, Chrome, Safari, all to no effect.

    using WP 2.8.4
already deactivated all plugins, same results: none

And the strangest thing for me is that it does work on other sites. So, some sites flash uploader doesn’t work, some sites it does work.

I have tried a little sth that seems to work and that is to rightclick on the image uploader and open in a new tab. Then use the browser uploader and upload your picture. Then go back to your post and hardcode the image into your post or page.

Yup, it’s a gigantic pain in the b*tt, b*tt what else can you do when nobody has a quick working solution?

    (@mattjurek)

I see that you tested it with macs, it does indeed work well with macs. Where it doesnt work is with WINDOWS. There seems to be some kind of bug between wordpress and windows, I have no issue on my mac. But cant upload at all in windows.
