• After spending a lot of time trying to figure out what the cause of this problem is, here I go:

I have moved a WordPress website to another server. Everything works fine, except for uploaded images. Somehow, they link to non-existing filenames:

    correct filename: home-2ye4ziqrpcsfomjomi4v0a.jpg
filename after move: home-2yln25wc9d7vaac00agmiy.jpg, which obviously results in a 404

I have carefully gone through all of the settings in wp-admin, tried numerous of plugins, but I ended up with zero results in the end.

  • I hope you did not re-upload the images to a fresh installation. When moving WordPress, you should copy *all* of your WordPress files (and database SQL) as is and copy the files to your new server and import your database.

    Thank you for your input.

The complete WordPress website (files and database) have been moved. I have only adjusted the database login and the salt keys in wp-config.php after the move.

Then I have no explanation of why the file names changed. Sorry.

That is all right. I appreciate any input on this.
