    Hi,

So, brand new, clean installation of 3.4.1. Using theme TwentyEleven. This is as vanilla an installation as you can get, and it was performed automagically for me by the Softaculous script on my hosting account.

Images just don’t work. Here’s what happens.

I’m trying to upload an image to use as the header. As per the directions for the TwentyEleven theme, I’ve cropped it to 1000×288.

The initial upload appears to work fine, but no thumbnail is generated. If I insert the image into a post, it appears to complete, but nothing is displayed. If I try to set the image as Header, I get taken to a dialogue that offers to let me crop it or use it as is, but the image itself isn’t displayed. Choosing to just use it as is appears to complete, but nothing happens (no header image).

If I select to Edit the image, then, bizarrely, I can see it. I can make text changes to the alt text or whatever, resave, and STILL nothing happens.

Starting to lose my mind here. I’ve tested this in Firefox with and without plugins. I’ve tested it in Chrome. I’ve tested it in Internet Explorer. I don’t know what to do anymore.

    Please, please help.

Please provide a link to your site.
What is the name of your web hosting company?

in admin, what are your values stored in settings-> Media for the uploading files section:

    • Which folder is specified for Store uploads in this folder?
    • Is Full URL path to files – blank?
    • is Organize my uploads into month- and year-based folders checked?

    Hi cubecolour,

Thanks for responding. The url is https://nuptuals.davidstuneshop.net (I’m trying to set up an info website for my upcoming wedding). My hosting is with Frozen Web Host, and has been since about 2005. My main site (davidstuneshop.net) runs on WordPress 3.3.1 with no problems.

In the admin section, I have experimented both with using the default wp/uploads folder, and currently trying a new folder called wp/newmedia. This has had no effect. Deleting and re-creating the folders produces no effect either (someone else suggested to try that).

Full URL path is not blank, but correctly shows the url to the file. In this case, it is https://nuptuals.davidstuneshop.net/wp-content/newmedia/wedding2.jpg

Looking manually into that folder, the file is there, as is the thumbnails for it.

I have experimented with both checking and unchecking Organize my uploads into month- and year-based folders, it doesn’t make a difference.

connect to your site files by FTP, can you find the wedding2.jpg image? What directory is it in?

Connecting to my site via FTP, I can see the image (and its thumbnails) no problem. It is exactly where the URL says it should be.

I’m unsure of the ettiquette here – am I allowed to bump my post in the hopes of more replies? Not sure what my options are, other than to kill the install and see if I can’t find a previous version of WordPress somewhere.

WTF? Suddenly it’s working. I have no clue what was wrong.

Hm – I’ve got the same problem. I1ve read a lot about errors in functions.php, but disabled all downloaded themes and the error persists.

I even tried a full replacing the enitre wordpress directory with a fresh copy with no luck.

Also there is a javascript error:

    Timestamp: 21.08.12 16:19:01
Error: Image corrupt or truncated: https://rodland.no/wp-admin/admin-ajax.php?action=imgedit-preview&_ajax_nonce=61e7e27bb8&postid=256&rand=80931
