Images disappear from posts

  • Hello,

    I am using the Gutenberg editor.

    The last four days I have been struggling with some images in posts. They disappear at the front end and the only thing left is the caption and the alt text. In the admin back-end in Media/Library I can only see a small grey square where the image should be and the Edit Image button below, all the image metadata is OK.

    When I click the Edit Image button I can in Attachment Details at the top left side see the same small grey square and at the right side, I can see the image thumbnail.

    By now I have tried many different things like using backups from when all images were OK, optimized database, deleted the images and uploaded them again, even in different sizes, performed health checks, had our host to look into the problem, refreshed permalinks, deactivated all plugins, checked the images URLs and other things as well. I have also been reading a lot of forums and found some which I thought would solve our problem. Unfortunately, I have not had any luck.

    The Link to the page URL is a post where images have disappeared. I have today tried once more to upload the images to this post, but so far two images disappear right after. If you look at the post and scroll down you will find the two below alt texts and captions. Maybe more if more images disappear:

  • Are you using any CDN or Asset optimization at all to help site performance?

    I ask becuase that was one of the issues that caused my site to load oddly in some cases.

    Thank you for your reply.

    We are not using CDN. We are using W3 Total Cache and two other plugins for the site performance.

    We were standing on our head with this issue and tried several things to solve it. So many that we lost track of it, but the good thing is that we got the images back in the posts where they were missing earlier this week.

    I hope they will stay on, so we don’t need to go through this again.
