I’ve transferred over a blog from wordpress.com to a self hosted blog, and on my latest post (which I have not yet published because of the distorted inages) the images are stretched and distorted to fit the tiled gallery. This wouldn’t be too much of an issue if clicking on the image then brought up the photo in its actual size, but it’s still distorted here and only by clicking on the ‘view image full size’ tab that the image reverts to its correct size.

I did change the media settings before uploading my images to allow the large images to be the the size of my images (4268 x 2634 or whatever it is) and I’m concerned that doing this has led to the distortion.

This blog is being done while we are travelling and it took me almost 2 days to get all the images up with the terrible WiFi so I’m really hoping I’m not going to have to redo that!

The website is thegreathashpedition.com but as I have said the post hasn’t been published yet. Is there any way to get help without publishing or will you guys need to look at it?

    Thanks a lot

    4268 x 2634

That’s crazyily large image size. You should make the large size smaller. If you do, you’ll need to rebuild the thumbnails. Use the plugin “ajax thumbnail rebuild” to do that.

Without seeing the page in question, I can’t think of anything else to suggest.

Yeah I know, I think I misunderstood and thought that I had to set that as the size of the photos I was uploading to keep the quality.

What does that setting actually do? Will there still be a full resolution version of my image accessible or will that compress any that I upload?

I’ll give the plug in a try and let you know the results, thanks for the help

Yes, there will be a full resolution version, but actually using it will make your site very slow to load.

Okay so the issue now is that the photos that are distorted are only ‘vertical’ photos, so they’re taller than they are wide. These are all squashed down in height, which is more obvious in some than others. I’ve published the blog now so you can see the issue

I notice that all these vertical photos are orientated on their side (to look like a horizontal photo) in the media album, so would rotating these in the album make a difference?

I will publish the post so you can see the compressed photos

the tiled images on https://thegreathashpedition.com/ look OK to me. (You guys are very cute. ?? )

    Thank you very much ??

Oh really? It could just be because I’m viewing it on a tablet, but there’s a waterfall that’s halfway through the first gallery on ‘Out of Ecuador’ that’s really squished, is it not squished for you then?

It’s meant to be a vertical panoramic but it’s just squashed in.

    Thanks for the help!

So the first tiled gallery, on my view there’s a picture about halfway down that covers the total width but is squashed vertically. It’s actually a vertical panoramic of a waterfall, not that you would be able to tell!

All other posts and pages were done on wordpress.com before migrating here, and the galleries on those are working fine. It’s just this post that’s messing me around!

    Yeah, I see it now.

You might want to check with the jetpack folks.

Just to get this resolved, I posted on the Jetpack forum and got it resolved, the meta-data of my photos was confusing wordpress (despite showing correctly on the file explorer on my tablet), and so the resolution is to open the photos in an image editor and resave, which will often remove the meta-data.
