images don't appear on import

  • On my multisite if someone who already has a wordpress blog wants to export their blog and then import it onto my multisite when they join, none of the images from their blog is uploaded with the site.

    The blog posts are imported okay but not a single image

    Does anyone know why this might happen?

    I tried going into the blog directory folder, finding the folder for the specific blog and uploading the folders in there but that didn’t make any difference. I was hoping they would appear in the dashboard under media but they don’t.

    Any suggestions/ideas/help appreciated

    Yes, I have completed most of these imports. I should have mentioned that I always check the box but nothing appears.

    Okay, are the images listed in the media library?

    Are you importing all posts or just some?

    Are the images attached to the posts?

    No. When the import happens it shows everything has been imported but the media library is empty.

    Yes, all the posts are imported and the images are a mixture of inside the blog post and attached as the featured post.

    I have been importing and exporting for years. It all goes to plan. Except on this multisite where images just don’t import. Its not usually a problem because the people who join have no site at all so they are starting from the beginning. But recently people with WordPress sites are joining and want to import everything over but the images do not import.

    Would it help if I made a video of me exporting and importing one?

    Can you check that first? I know you said this:

    But that isnt’ quite what I meant ?? Go to the media library on the existing site and see if the images show as being attached to a specific post or not.

    Also have you tried this on a single site?

    There’s no difference between single and multisite imports, so I’m thinking the issue is THIS export.

    Some were attached and others were not.

    This isn’t the first time it has happened. Its just the first time I have decided to seek help because its annoying and time consuming having to reupload all the images on their respective posts.

    None of the imports I have made have worked.

    Unless you are saying I need all the images attached to a post when I export so that they import into the multisite? I could check that to see if it works

    Technically you need the images attached to a post to be imported in general. This isn’t a multisite issue.

    Oh okay, thank you, well the next one I import I will make sure all images are attached and see if that makes a difference.
