• Hi,

In my blog posts that were created with WordPress 4.x, images are included in the post with a link to the full-size image.

This is not the case for WordPress 5, where the image is fitted into post with no full-size link.

How can I fix this behaviour and allow visitors to view the full-size image when clicking on it? Ideally without plugins. This used to be built-in functionality before.

  • Hi @dandago

This might have already been addressed in the forums:

In my experience, once you start adding images to posts/pages with links to media files, with a size selected, WordPress uses that size for every subsequent link until you change it again. It’s something you’ve got to keep an eye on when inserting image links, because (at first glance for me), WP’s default is medium. I’ll take another look and see if there’s a way to get them to change default to “full,” but at first glance at WP core, I don’t see it.

    Hi @littlepackage,

Thank you for your helpful response.

I don’t have that Link Settings section in the right sidebar that those posts describe. However, I did find the same functionality via a link icon on top of the image block, where you select “Link to Media file”.

This is annoying because I have to do it for every image, but at least it works. Thanks again.

I looked in core some more and there isn’t a hook readily apparent to me that would reset “full” as default. With Gutenberg I guess things got even more complicated… but we all get used to things after a time.
