Images & File Hosting

I was going thru my File Manager on Go Daddy and noticed that 3 or 4 copies of each image I upload are being saved. Right now, its not affecting my disk space, but I’m curious because I know if the future it could…

1 – Why would there be multiple copies of the images saved?
2 – Is this an adjustable option I’m not finding somewhere? From WordPress or Go Daddy? Or just the typical setting?

I just wanted to inquire because I’ve been using WordPress with my own hosting for a few months now (and am very pleased), but am still “working out the kinks” as I get to know things better.
