    I think the issue you reported is not strictly related to the widget. You should pay attention to how you set the link when inserting an image in a widget. It looks like you are linking the image to the attachment page instead of the direct link to the media file (it’s an option in the new media library interface).
    Moreover the lightobx effect is usually applied by some plugin or by the theme, so you should ensure that everything is properly configured. Sometimes you should explicitely add a class or rel attribute to the a tag in order to trigger the lightbox effect. Specifically, since you are using the U-Design theme, it should be sufficient to add a rel="wp-prettyPhoto" to the a tag inside the widget (this can be achieved via html source code or even visually in the Advanced panel of the Edit image dialog).
