    Hello,

    1.
i cant understand how images are included in the post. when editing a post that was created with USP, the image(s) are not found/displayed in WP Editor. Also not as featured image. How can i edit or remove a posted image?

    2.
when i edit an existing USP post and insert text, then an image and then text again, the image appears twice on frontend. how can this be avoided?

    Thanks, Tobias

    one more:

    3.
when editing a USP creted post the classic WP editor opens instead of Gutenberg Editor. Is there a setting to avoid that and edit with Gutenberg as standard?

    Glad to help:

    1. To display images on the front end, enable the plugin setting called “Display submitted images”. To check the images in the Admin Area, visit the Edit screen for any post and look at the Custom Fields panel. There you will find the URL of each image attached to the post. FYI each image also is added to the WP Media Library.

    2) I’m not sure tbh, there can be a lot of variables involved, other plugins and whatnot. But can tell you that there are only two ways the plugin can display images on the front end. The first is the setting, “Display submitted images”. The other is the setting, “Featured Image”. So if both of those are disabled, it would be impossible for the plugin to display any images.

    3) That’s how it should work by default. Submitted posts are editor-agnostic and open in whichever editor is enabled on site.

I hope this helps, let me know if I can provide any further information.

    Hello Jeff,

thanks for your help. I cannot find “Display submitted images” in the settings. Is the a Pro feature?

    Plugin Author Jeff Starr

    (@specialk)

It’s under “Front-end Display” > “Image Display” (first setting).

ok, this is translated badly to german in the settings. But i do not mean the display in the frontend, but in backend. Inside the WordPress editor. After Submission i can edit the post in Dashboard and there is nothing, although the image is displayed in frontend. Therefore an image cannot be removed or edited.

By default WordPress does not display images in post content when displayed on the “Edit” screen in the WP Admin Area. So here is what happens for each image uploaded via USP form:

    1. The image is added to the WP Media Library
    2. The image URL is attached as a custom field to the submitted post

To edit/delete an uploaded image, the changes should be made to the image URL (custom field) and also in the Media Library.

    Hi Jeff,

I installed a plugin called “disable Gutenberg”. Awesome plugin, you should have a look ??

    • Gutenberg does nor show the custom field. My users cannot and should not access the media library. so they could not edit or remove USP posted images. So this is solved by not using Gutenberg.
    • But still i have the problem, that my later inserted images are shown a second time at the bottom of the post in frontend as square thumbnail image. It does not matter where i insert them in the post. Also it does not happen with every image. This only happens with post previously created with USP. This is a very strange behaviour that i must figure out how to avoid. Have a look at my thes post please: https://rt.forst-bertikow.de/title-post-17/ In the bottom line you the the doubled thumbnail images…

I Hope you can help me find a solution for this…

    Best regards, Tobias

Thanks for the Disable Gutenberg mention. Check out who the author is, I hear he’s a really cool guy ??

In any case, to help with your questions:

    1. “Gutenberg does nor show the custom field. My users cannot and should not access the media library. so they could not edit or remove USP posted images. So this is solved by not using Gutenberg.”

To enable the Custom Fields panel in the Gutenberg Block Editor, visit the Edit screen, click the three dots in the upper right corner, then Preferences ? General ? Advanced ? Custom Fields.

    2. “But still i have the problem, that my later inserted images are shown a second time at the bottom of the post in frontend as square thumbnail image. It does not matter where i insert them in the post.”

Well if you can provide steps to repeat the issue on default WordPress installation, it would enable me to investigate and try to resolve asap. Otherwise without steps, you would need to do some basic troubleshooting of your theme and plugins. I would be glad to provide a free guide if it might be useful for you.

Also I should repeat my comment from previously in this thread:

“..there are only two ways the plugin can display images on the front end. The first is the setting, “Display submitted images”. The other is the setting, “Featured Image”. So if both of those are disabled, it would be impossible for the plugin to display any images.”

9 times out of 10, one or both of those settings is the reason that duplicate images are displayed.

    Hi Jeff,

i might have found a hint what causes the double display:

If i remove the image markup code in the front-end display settings and refresh the post with the double images on frontend, the second thumnail sized images at the bottom are gone.

Certainly now i cannot submit images with USP anymore, but maybe it helps you to figure out the problem…

Okay so the “Front-end Display” > “Image Markup” setting is blank/empty, correct? If so, try setting the option “Image Display” to “Do not display”, which should give the same results.

    Thread Starter td8000

    (@td8000)

    yes, same result

    Plugin Author Jeff Starr

    (@specialk)

So there is only one set of images displayed now, correct?

    Thread Starter td8000

    (@td8000)

yes in the existing posts the double image is gone.

But i can’t post new images now.

    Plugin Author Jeff Starr

    (@specialk)

Why not? The settings we’ve been changing have no effect on submitted images. A lot of users have disabled the display-images setting. And users can still submit posts and images normally.

    (@td8000)

Hi Jeff, i am still stuck with the same problem.

If i leave the “Image markup” filed empty or change to “Do not display” any newly USP created post with included image results in the post not having the image on frontend. I do not understand your last answer, also i tested it and there are no images in frontend displayed. Seems also logical to me as “Do not display” kind of let me expect that.

Only in the old post that had double images before the second thumbnail sized image is gone when i do the change mentionend above.

This double thumbnail sized image comes up, when i edit an existing USP created post in WordPress Editor (Classic or Gutenberg) and add an image inside the post text. This image on frontend is displayed correctly at the position where it is inserted and then unfortunately again at the end of the post as thumbnail image.

There must be a reason for this and therefore a way to avoid this.

Best regards, and many thanks for your help…

    Tobias
