• Hello Support Helpers,

Just discovered several images uploaded to my wp_content uploads folder that i did not upload myself. All relate to some Dog/Cat Food site. They have put me over my Short Pixel optimization maximum. I have no idea where they came from. All were uploaded either March 21 or 22.

I can’t link you to the page since I found these in File Manager on my host server.

Can anyone help me understand where these images came from and what I should do about them?

Thanks for any help … I’m sure stumped!

    Linda

  • As I understand they are on your Library but not displaying on the site, right?
If your are using a custom theme some images may be part of a template page or element. In this case they were uploaded to your content folder along with the theme. To make sure please check if you or another user installed a new theme by March 21 or 22.

Thank you very much, Henrique, for getting back to me … and so quickly! You have understood my issue perfectly (although I hadn’t realized the images were in my library as well until I checked just now). I think you’re right about their being uploaded with a theme, but I haven’t consciously uploaded any themes and I am the only user of this PC. The only ideas I have are:
    1. Could these have come in with the WordPress 2022 theme? I did update to the latest version, but am not sure when.
    2. Could Elementor have done this via one of their updates? I use them for our home page.

Do you have any further thoughts? Is there any way I could check whether my 2 ideas could be correct? Sorry, I’m not overly technical!

    Sure appreciate your help!

    Linda

Let’s try to find this out together @irenelinda
Can you tell me which Theme your site is using?

I believe some custom components available on Elementor can contain images yes. Can you send me a print of these images information? Pls access your Library and click on the select image for information.

Wonderful … and thank you, Henrique!
Our theme is GeneratePress, free version currently, Premium last year.

I think you are asking for the information about the images and not the images themselves. Is that correct?

If so, there are images and also 9 items labelled as Attachments with URLs I cannot access. Here is the info for One:
    Title: 16_DogCat_Food_Delivery-Clients_3.svg
    URL: https://mygoforthegreen.com/16_dogcat_food_delivery-clients_3-svg/
Uploaded on March 21, supposedly by me (Linda, linked to my profile php).

There is 1 logo image (which is just an empty square in my Library), uploaded on the same date by me again.
    File Name: 16_DogCat_Food_Delivery-Logo.png.

One weird thing I just discovered: if I copy that png or the svg into a search engine, I get all kinds of listings from all kinds of organizations, none of which are related to pet Food! Huh?

Here are examples of image info. There are 7 visible images, 4 for products, 1 for About, 1 for Testimonials, 1 for Hero image:
    File Name: 16_DogCat_Food_Delivery-Testimonials.jpg
Uploaded March 21 again, by Linda.
Below is one of 4 product images, same date and uploaded by Linda:
    16_DogCat_Food_Delivery-Products_Beef.jpg

Hope this is what you needed. If not, please let me know and I’ll try again. Wasn’t sure if or how I could include a snip image of an info page.

I REALLY appreciate your help … and the time you are giving me!

I’m here to help, no worries ??

In fact I was thinking about seen the images. And even a printscreen of your library. But in fact that’s my mistake as our WP Forums don’t support images.

I’ll recommend you to upload some images on ImGur as hidden and send me just the links here. It’s a good tool for that an all your hidden material will be only visible by those you send a link for.

Let’s see if we can do that way.

Okay, I’ll give that a try. An image of my Library is what I thought you wanted when I first read your message and then I changed my mind, especially once I could see no way to upload the image. I’ll go now and try the link you sent, get an image of my Library page and send you that link.

    Be right back, Henrique!

    Thanks!

    Hi Irene,
Thanks for the image, this definitely helps me to understand things.

I try some Image Search on Google and find out that this image of the girl and the dog comes from Elementor. I even found a test site that someone created exploring this theme and forgot to delete ??

The picture is there. And there’s also reference to YUMMY-YUMMY which is a fake company that is being promoted. It explains other images on yr library related to that.

So there’s nothing to worry in concern of a possible hack. This is all content related to your Elementor. You can delete them or just ignore.

Hope you have a Happy Easter ??

Wow, that’s terrific, Henrique!I’m impressed you could find the origin of these images after seeing my screenshot… I sure couldn’t! I’m glad to know Elementor is the culprit and not a hacker! Now I’m going to contact them and Short Pixel to see if I can get my optimization credits back! Or maybe I should ask Elementor to pay for them?! Ha, ha.

I really appreciate your help and the time you spent to work me through this. No wonder I love WordPress … and its community.

Best wishes to you for a Happy Easter, too! ??
