Images in Widget

You must not have configured it to display images, here it is working fine on my site.

you’ll need to change the css, which you do in the templates.css file (in the templates folder)

the easiest way to handle this is allow for some text in the excerpt, but if you don’t want to do that you need to add this to the templates.css file (anywhere on that page is fine)
